LETS BE FRIENDS.

the future is unwritten.
know your rights.

WELCOME TO AGOGE! This is the place you guys can announce yourselves and your new characters before the official IC log goes up! Plot and plan or just say hi!

The following template is just a rubric to give you ideas of what to post; it's not mandatory at all! Feel free to leave categories off if needed, or add your own!

NAME: Who are you?
CONTACT: Where are you?
TIMEZONE: When are you?
CHARACTER: Who's that pokemon?
CANON: Are they ghost type?
GAME GOALS: Do you have any overall plans in game?
PLOT PLANS: Anything you're looking forward to in the next mission?
DESIRED CR: CR your character meshes well with? CR you can provide others?
ANYTHING ELSE? This is where the gifs go.

The plot going up tomorrow will begin in France 1792, in the middle of September, just before the Revolution really kicks off. Combat will be highlighted, as well as morale-boosting and charisma, not to mention a little spycraft and stealth. The first log, going up tomorrow, will be focused on preparing for battle and getting to know the terrain; the actual battle will be later in the month.

In the meanwhile, feel free to peruse the setting infopage!

now I just want to watch jon and some random French peasant discuss the ancien regime, omg

anyway I was super excited to see a jon on the tdm, and im double glad you're here now! I think a character like jon will be super fucking interesting in a game setting like this, and I cant wait to see what you do to him. likewise midnighter is a big asshole but he does have some respect for people who know their shit and are good at their job, so theres potential for interesting growth there, fingerguns

"Now, WHAT about these three estates?" Jon would probably feel out of place yet again, of course, what with not quite being nobility and not quite being a commoner.

and yay, thank you! fingerguns back, this sounds like a plan to attempt. I think Jon is used to big assholes by now (I mean: he's friends with Tormund, Thorne killed him, etc -- all kinds of jerks on his own side and opposing sides) so I think he'll manage just fine.

that's why they invented the bourgeois bb

LAUGHS im glad. ive only read the books, so idk all the details (are tormund and thorne show only characters? I don't remember them but also those books have 9 billion characters and its been literal decades at this point) but it definitely sounds like a recipe for something hilarious, and that's really my only requirement in rp.

TRUE FACTS

I've been reading the books for literally 20 years, sob, so much investment. Anyway: Tormund is one of the Wildling chiefs (he's a bit younger in the show than in the books), the one who's a larger-than-life-Norseman/Celt type, and Thorne is the Master-At-Arms at Castle Black who absolutely hates Jon's guts and spearheads the mutiny to murder him in the show (in the books he's sent away to a different castle and is not part of that mutiny). It's funny because the reason Thorne hates Jon is that Jon is "Ned Stark's son" -- except that unbeknownst to everyone, Jon is actually Rhaegar Targaryen's son who Ned Stark raised. Thorne was at Castle Black because he was a Targaryen loyalist during Robert's Rebellion, and he had to join the Night's Watch to avoid execution after his side lost the war. He hates Ned Stark because Ned Stark fought on the opposite side. So in the scenario where Thorne leads the mutiny and stabs Jon, he's responsible for killing the guy he would have thought was the true king if he had known all the facts. Irony!

deep irony bruh

I read them all ages ago but I haven't reread since then so I don't remember the smaller details anymore.

the real question: how bitter do you think grrm is that the show got to jon's parentage first
northerndragon: he says, with no self-pity whatsoever (a NORTHERN FOOL)

[personal profile] northerndragon 2017-10-06 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
if he wants to be bitter he can write faster, that's what I say

nah, in all honesty I figured out Jon's parentage as but a wee lower-case E in 1998 or so, and I know the showrunners had to tell GRRM who Jon's real mother is to get his blessing to do the show, so he's probably cool with it. ish.

but write faster, george, for real. Jon is currently dead in the books! Ramsay still has Winterfell! they're a minimum of two seasons behind now! aaaaaaaah.

I have a bet going that we never see the next book tbh. I think the show really harshed his enthusiasm to finish. which is a shame bc I really prefer the books (THEY HAVE LADY STONEHEART #neverforget)

yeah, I share this theory. He doesn't really like to outline too far ahead, and the book just has a bewildering number of subplots that are going to be incredibly hard to wrap up, which I know is what he's basically indicated is the problem with his speed right now. I really want to see where the Perkin Warbeck Probably Fake Aegon storyline is going, though, and since the show didn't cover it, there's absolutely no way to know. (AND WHAT'S UP WITH LADY STONEHEART AND JAIME?!?!?!? he didn't send his regards like that, Roose!)

GOD FAKE AEGON WAS SO OUT OF NOWHERE

tbh I want to know more about penny, I get why the show cut her (im sure it did, it must have) but I found her bits the best part of dwd. also it underscored some of tyrion's personal flaws which we kind of... need.............

I think his writing style is constantly getting distracted, overwhelmed, and hiding from it. it makes sense why he can pump out those wildcard books so much faster; they're short stories so he doesn't have time to overshoot himself

Yeah, the show cut Penny, and you're absolutely right about it really showing up Tyrion's personal flaws. I don't actually feel that Tyrion has had enough to do on the show since arriving in Meereen. He's there and he gets a good line or scene once in a while, but he definitely doesn't have much going on until the very most recent episode.

also agreed about the writing style. I get why he chooses not to outline, but as someone who tried to write fiction without outlining when I was younger, and has learned a lot more about like... outlining, effective scene structure, character arcs, etc... not doing it for the full structure of a complex novel really seems like you're absolutely asking to be where he is now, which I'm pretty sure he's described as a Gordian Knot of plot. Short stories are easier if you're used to writing in the form, and probably also a palate cleanser if you're the author of something like AFFC/ADWD.
