Character: John Constantine inconstantly
Tell us a little about them!: John's an alcoholic chain smoking disaster of a magician who puts on a cocky front to hide how dead he is inside. He has a lot of guilt about being responsible for the death of a young girl during a botched exorcism and subsequent damnation of her soul (because of the arrogance in his error his own soul has been damned as well), but unless your character really gets to know him they'd never know it based on how he deflects with humor and flirtatiousness. Self destruction is happening here all day every day.
What are some of your favorite kinds of music and/or your favorite artists? My fave band at the moment is Highly Suspect. I listen to a lot of alt and indie shit. John canonically is a big fan of punk but that's not a necessity for a playlist.
Is there any kind of music you're not into? What is it? not really into country or most top 40ish stuff

I have associated Sympathy for the Devil with JC since I knew that JC existed. (which is a REALLY LONG TIME -- I was pretty involved in the Sandman fandom for a while years and years ago.)

Also maybe Solsbury Hill.

the street parade by the clash is about how counter culture types always eventually fade into the 'mainstream' but they're never really 'gone'. i find it painfully beautiful to listen to.

ghost town by the specials is about a town becoming cleared out when all the jobs leave, but it can easily double as being about.... actual fucking ghosts.

I'm sorry this took me so long to reply but you were so thoughtful with your song choices that I wanted to spend time with all your tunes after I got back from out of town and give them some proper attention. c:

the street parade - ugggggh I love this??? Painfully beautiful is exactly the right turn of phrase. The theme of the song is actually something I think a lot about, esp wrt to the Newcastle Crew and how time has kind of swallowed them up. You really hit on one of my favorite things to muse about, how dare you.

death or glory - The more aggressive take on the theme really evokes a strong visual of the Mucous Membrane days for me. They absolutely had a "burn bright while it lasts" kind of outlook and now John kind of sweeps that time in his life under the rug while still never fully letting go. And John has technically fucked a nun!!! Before she was a nun, but it still counts

ghost town - I love songs that go double duty like that, all the devil songs I linked are also metaphors SO I GOTCHU!!! this one has such a neat sound. Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town? ugh that hurts me in such a good way

we should fight - UMMMMM THIS IS LIKE SOMEONE JUST SMEARED JOHN ALL OVER AND A SONG CAME OUT (gross) One of my buddies once described John as building a neon church for himself and that's exactly the kind of vibe I'm getting here. The song reflects John's big show about himself while he also uses that dazzle to try to hide his vulnerabilities.
